In light of the holiday season, we asked our students the following question: If you could give, or receive, just one gift from anyone in the world, what would that gift be? (Some names have been changed for confidentiality)

“I would give my brother another chance at life. It was unfair how he got screwed over having a good life.” T – aka Joe Shmoe

“I would give world peace to the human race, so no one would lose their loved ones to war or gang fights. The gift I would have from others would be making things right and fixing the wrongs I did to others.” DW – aka Spitting Venom

“I would give to my family and the world the gift to crochet things. The reason why is because I feel that if I know how to crochet, and read the language, then I could teach other people.” D – aka D Nice

“If I could give one gift to somebody, it would an electric wheelchair to my grandmother. This would make her life easier.” AM – aka Ladii 303

“I would give blankets to homeless people because they deserve kindness, and they deserve happiness. I would want my gift to be meeting my biological sister for the first time, because I’ve never met her, and didn’t know that I had one until just a few days ago, and because my family is important to me.” M – Beast-a-Girl

“A gift that I would give would be warm clothes and food for all the homeless people, because they live in freezing cold weather and can’t do anything about it.” S – aka Chief Long Winded

“I would give back Van Gogh’s his ear because I feel that was the one extremity that could have further influenced his art on the world. I would want a signed copy of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” by Jules Verne.” Rot Wide Smile

“I would like to give my primo a gift because he passed away. If I could receive a gift it would be for my primo to show that he loved me.” D Balla

Youth On Record, a program of Flobots.org, teaches music production and lyric writing in residential treatment centers across Denver and beyond, as a means of supporting their specific treatment goals. It is truly amazing what many young people will do and say when given the opportunity.
