San Diego reggae-rockers Thicker Than Thieves will be hitting Herman’s Hideaway April 2 on their Spring tour. Smooth and mellow, their music is the perfect party sound. Forming in 2000, they epitomize the SoCal reggae-rock sound of bands like Slightly Stoopid and The Expendables. A good fit at a venue like Herman’s, the band will share the stage with CollieRAD, Not Quite Kings, and Joel Kachel.

Two members of the group hail from Costa Rica, and the band spends a fair amount of time there. They also split time between California and Hawaii. “We hosted a band called Fortunate Youth this last year (in Costa Rica), kind of our first annual hosting, called Coast of Cali Fest,” says vocalist Jammin Hazelaar. They played multiple places around the small country, and although it is a Spanish speaking country, Thicker Than Thieves kept their songs in English. “My Spanish is OK,” Hazelaar says with a laugh. “Other than por favor and gracias, all of our songs are in English.”

The group hopes to finish up a full length record this year. “We just put out an EP about six months ago,” says Hazelaar. “We are in the recording process right now. We are trying to record it and have it all together in the next few months, and we’ll have another release.”

Herman’s has become a regular stomping ground for the band while they are on the road. “We’ve played Herman’s Hideaway a few times,” says Hazelaar. “We are definitely looking forward to it. It’s been a while since we have been back to Colorado. We love the state, and love getting out there.”

The band stops is Pueblo at Smitty’s Green Light Tavern with Denver’s own P-Nuckle on March 30, if the lineup entices you to head down south.
