Friday nights in Denver are always a party, and when you throw in the likes of Rusko and DJ Shadow performing at the Paper Diamond-curated Levitate Festival, you’ve got a full-on celebration of all things green and bassy.

Pictureplane started the party early, as patrons made their way into the 1st Bank Center, and proceeded to deliver on all ends with his classic and smooth take on heavy-bass production.

DJ Shadow followed, in his spaced-out “Shadowsphere,” and the growing crowd had a nice dent in the open air of the arena with numerous clouds of smoke rising to the roof. The visual performance, in addition to DJ Shadow’s mind-bending tunes and mixing skill, resulted in what was my favorite set of the night; a blend of his signature, tripped-out, downtempo tunes, and a handful of heavier, drum and bass style remixes.

Headliner, Rusko, was clearly the biggest draw of the night, and with his high-energy set, he took the show to another level, proving, once again, that he is one of the best in the game at delivering the heaviest tunes. With massive sound, and mixes that stretched the speaker’s capabilities, there was no shortage of bass, and Rusko’s set was a spectacular display of his expertise in this area of electronic music.

After moving into the 1st Bank Center, due to the great success of last year’s event in Boulder, it was apparent that the venue may have been a little much for this crowd, however, everyone in attendance had a great time, and I believe that this will grow into a larger festival next year, with the potential of selling out the 6,500 person venue, and bringing in even more great EDM artists.
