On the Once a Giant EPBrennan Mackey carries an impressive tune with his alt-folk delivery.  The lead singer ofKing Cardinal embraces music of days gone by with a passion reminiscent of a 60’s folk artist crossed with a forlorn country western crooner. Accompanied by bassist Kramer Kelling, drummer Scott Roush (both of Denver mainstays Rossonian and The Raven and The Writing Desk), and pedal-steel virtuoso Jamie Mitchell, Mackey and the boys take us on a dusty and dirty and gritty journey filled with sorrow and sacrifice.  Fueled by stellar tracks Into the Wind and Gasoline, Once a Giant, is a athemic coming of age journey into and through the elusive concept of manhood. This is a man who’s time here is not without thoughtful grace and steadfast fortitude. I recommend that you give their music a good hard listen and you can check them out live later this summer at the Higher Ground Music Festival.
