Judge Roughneck is working towards a big summer, starting with the release of a new album June 5 at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom. The band spoke at length about the album-

Colorado-based Ska and Reggae stalwart Judge Roughneck is back with its fourth studio CD
featuring new songs, one legendary cover, and surprise guest vocalists.
Roughneck has gone back to its roots with its 2-Tone inspired style of high-energy ska & reggae for this release, titled “Pick
You Up”. The CD will be released Friday, June 5th at Cervantes Other Side located at 2635 Welton Street in Denver.
Co-headlining the show will be Angelo Moore of Fishbone fame. He will be performing as Dr. Maddvibe & the Missing
Links and will also join Judge Roughneck to perform the song “Mirror in the Bathroom”, originally written and recorded by
Dave Wakeling and the English Beat.
The idea for a cover of Mirror in the Bathroom featuring Angelo Moore came to Roughneck Band Leader and Lead
Vocalist Byron Shaw in a dream. “I always imagined a version of Mirror that was more in a dub style” said Shaw. “I also
have always wanted to see the original line-ups of Fishbone and The English Beat back together sometime, so maybe this
is a roundabout way to get to that to happen.”
“When the concept of Angelo singing Mirror in the Bathroom came up, all the hair on my left arm stood up” Roughneck
Trombonist and “Pick You Up” Producer David Dinsmore recollects.
To approach Moore with the idea, Shaw contacted former Denverite and now LA-based artist & event manager Angie
Seegers who knew Angelo. After listening to the track, Moore didn’t hesitate: “Those boys really funked Mirror out. I can’t
wait to perform with them again in June.” Dave Wakeling, after listening to Roughneck’s interpretation of his iconic 2nd
Wave Ska hit said of Saxophoner Jon Hegel’s performance: “Its real smoky!”
Also appearing on the record is Colorado favorite Hazel Miller on the Judge Roughneck original Heard You When You
Said It.
Loyal Judge Roughneck fans funded the recording, mixing, mastering, and manufacture of Pick You Up via the crowdfunding
site www.KickStarter.com. Downloads of Pick You Up and Roughneck’s earlier releases will be made available for
download via iTunes and Amazon. Now in their 20th year of entertaining audiences across Colorado and beyond, the
band also makes its (almost) yearly appearance at the Reggae on the Rocks festival Saturday, August 22nd. “We are
blessed and honored to represent the most beautiful state in the land – Colorado” says Shaw.
