With the weather warming and the looming certainty of a massive summer tourist flow, Coloradans and Denver residents in particular have two things on their minds: getting away from the city, and festival season! Those who are burnt out on enormous festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella but still seek an incredible lineup are looking towards the lush hills of Ozark, Arkansas, where in just a few weeks Wakarusa music fest will be gracing the beautiful scenery at Mulberry Mountain.

Wakarusa has a long-standing reputation amongst festies and artists alike for delivering eclectic yet harmonious lineups year after year, and 2015 is no exception. With the first headliners listed being Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals and Major Lazer, it is immediately apparent how varied the scene will be. There are well over 100 artists spread across five stages and four days from June 4-7, so a vigilant perusal of the stage schedules is a must, but some acts that would be devastating to miss are Portugal. The Man, Thievery Corporation, Quixotic, March Fourth!, Ozomatli, and Colorado’s own James and the Devil.

Wakarusa will have a plethora of spectacles and adventures offered alongside their lineup. There will by a myriad of incredibly talented live artists and performers, including Alicia Post and the Apex Collective. If browsing through trippy art isn’t your thing, you’ll be able to ride the Ferris Wheel or take a hike down to the waterfall, where a quick cliff jump is sure to refresh and rejuvenate. If you’re feeling like something a bit more domestic to avoid going into total culture shock, Wakarusa has a wide array of food, merch, clothes, and oddity vendors to meander through. Fishing and daily yoga sessions will also be available to those requiring a relaxing reprieve.

Not only does this festival have some of the absolute best performances in a stunning atmosphere, but it is by far one of the most well run. Security lines are never too long; one car checkpoint upon entrance, and a quick frisk upon entering one of the three gated stage areas. Water stations and toilets are abundant and conveniently located, and there are a wide variety of camping packages to suit your needs. Whether you’re looking to camp right next to the stage areas and build a tent compound with your friends, or you want clean showers and bathrooms in a five star room alongside freshly cooked meals paired with ice cold drinks, Waka offers a deal for everyone. Starting at $200, you just can’t beat the price! There are also designated RV and Family campgrounds available.

The streets of Denver may be a bit empty from June 4-7, as all of our city-locked concert goers flock to the gorgeous Ozarks of Arkansas for an unbelievable weekend of music and art in the summer sun. Don’t miss out!
