You would have never guessed that singer-songwriter Connie Hong was a middle school teacher, writing songs during her breaks at school and then perform them for her students. That fervor is showcased in Ivory Circle’s latest release, and with abundance I might add. Lush…Ambient…Passionate…Ethereal…all words that truly express the alt-indie sound this band puts out. Strings, heavy beats, and harmonies really excel in this release (the first of three EPs that are scheduled). Hong is intense. And rightfully so after listening to her expressive lyrics. She is downright overly emotional, and that is a good thing. With a full band of talented musicians (including Chris Beeble from the famed Blasting Room Studios in Fort Collins), I look forward to catching a show soon (5/29 at the Bluebird). If you like:Florence and the Machine, Love like Fire, and Imogen Heap, you will be an Ivory Circle fan as well.
