Iconoplasty

by Tim Wenger

Some artists have mastered the art of ‘being where they need to be.’ The new EP from Oregon-based (and Boulder residing) Josh Gross, performing under the name Iconoplasty, is all the proof that one needs to see that he is one of those artists. A steady but intricate 23-minute flow of electronica peppered with overdubs, synth, and hypnotizing looped guitar riffs, Iconoplasty has taken the musical spirit of Boulder and injected it with the emotion that so often is forgotten in electronic music. The result is a release that manages to hold the listener’s attention from start to finish while stimulating the mind, tickling the ear, and openly engaging the impulse to dance.

We’re sad to see Gross taking his talents back to Oregon, but it just stokes us that much more for a new round of tour dates.
