montoneros

Montoneros music is as unique as the answers given below. Their album Bikini Largo is available now, check out the group’s Facebook page for more info. Catch the self-described Denver “twinkle crunch” band at Higher Ground Music Festival Aug 20-22 down in RiNo. Here are their thoughts on the band and the state of the scene in Denver.

CMB: First things first. Give us the story of the band.

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. He would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really.

After that, I met Brandon, Logan and Jeremy and we decided to start a Motörhead cover band called Faux-törhead, but I became concerned that impersonating Lemmy would be considered blasphemous, so we started Montoneros instead.

CMB: What’s your take on Denver’s scene right now? Are we at an apex? Are we still coming together?

Coming together usually feels a lot better than this… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Seriously though, there’s cool stuff and cool people in every genre locally – some scenes are just more tight-knit than others. Denver is a pretty chill place to make our tunes.

CMB: Have you found the scene here supportive, or have you guys felt that you’ve had to claw your way up?

Like life, plenty of people are super friendly, open-minded and supportive, and others are kind of lame. We’ve been fortunate enough to develop solid relationships with Soda Jerk Presents, Larimer Lounge/ Lost Lake, and Seventh Circle Music Collective, and we have lots of incredibly talented friends in bands like New Leverage, Anterroir, Facial, Old Sport, and Confluence that make awesome music and are wonderful dudes.

CMB: What direction do you see pop-rock heading this year?

Well, the Strawberry flavor was always my favorite, but I heard they’re coming out with a limited edition Pumpkin flavor in the fall!

CMB: Other than HGMF, what is the group up to this year?

We’ve been really into hacky sack lately.

OH! And we just released a new single, we played at The Underground Music Showcase, and then heading to Montana for Richard Dreyfest in early August!

CMB: What is the best place to check out your tunes?
