DENVER- Hi-Dive Denver is hosting a benefit concert for the SXSW Cares organization to raise money following the drunk driving tragedy that left four people dead at the March 2014 festival in Austin, TX and caused uproar throughout the nation’s music community. Josiah Albertsen, who spoke during the festival and was only blocks away when the incident took place, organized the event alongside the Ben DeSoto at the Hi-Dive.

“I’ve moderated panels at SXSW the past two years and was down there during the tragedy,” Albertsen said. “When I got back home I contacted Ben DeSoto from the Hi Dive about doing a benefit show and then we started reaching out to see if anyone wanted to donate anything. SXSW was first with passes for SXSW 2015, shirts and water bottles. Next came UMS, Illegal Pete’s, Soda Jerk, AEG, etc…really everyone we asked donated something. It was pretty amazing.”

Proceeds will benefit the SXSW Cares Fund and the show will feature raffles and giveaways in addition to live music. “All of the bands were chosen because they have great energy and are amazing, talented people…so the energy should be great,” said Albertsen. “Uber has kindly offered to let us use the promo DENVEREVENT the night of the show so that anyone using Uber the first time can get $20 off of their ride.”

Artists performing at the event include Esme Patterson, Emerald Siam, Straight Outta Luck, Dwayne (ex-Gamits), and Calder’s Revolvers. Tickets are available at facebook.com/hidivedenver.
