Friday, May 18, marked the first dubstep show to go down at “the Rocks” this year, and it was huge! Featuring the likes of Downlink, Datsik, Doctor P, and Flux Pavilion, in addition to Sub.mission residents opening the main stage, and holding down a locals’ stage up top as well, this was a night of epic music. Starting early in the parking lot, thousands of dubsteppers made their way up the foothills to the best venue in the world. Attendees walked in to the tunes of Sub.mission residents tag-teaming on the main stage, before heading up top to play the Sub.mission Stage throughout the rest of the night.

On the main stage, Downlink set the bar high, with a powerful set full of brostep bangers, and heavy metal-inspired bass anthems, something he has become increasingly known for over the past year or so. Next up, we had Datsik up to kill the main stage, and he didn’t disappoint, dropping a slew of moombahton/dubstep remixes and originals. Both of these young producers are quickly becoming huge stars in the American dubstep scene, and it has been exciting to see their careers blossom this year.

The only people with a chance of outshining the top-notch openers, were the head of Circus themselves, Doctor P and Flux Pavilion. These guys seem to have a playful rivalry going to see who can become the most uber-famous producer in the game, and with hits like “Big Boss,” “Cracks,” “Sweet Shop,” and “I Can’t Stop,” everyone is familiar with their music. These dudes bring the heat, and although they lack on mixing creativity and track selection, they put on one of the most epic shows in the electronic world, and Friday’s performances were nothing short of outstanding, as nearly 9,000 happy people came together to witness the best show at Red Rocks so far this summer!
