The room was packed. Attendees frantically scribbled notes on March 4, 2014, as panelists Keith Schneider, co-founder of Colorado Music Buzz Magazine, and Mike Blecha, owner of Kinnon Entertainment, shared their thoughts on topics ranging from band chemistry (it’s like a marriage) and how to build a fan base (don’t overplay the same venue), to choosing a band manager (it’s OK to hire out what you don’t know) and DIY touring (no better way than to get to know band members). The audience’s interactive questions continued after the hour, suggesting future panels on licensing, crowding funding, and more.

Conversations continued at IPie, where a vibrant and healthy networking atmosphere dominated the Mastermind, providing just as much—if not more—value to the evening. Bands, performers, promoters, bookers, studios, and other music-industry companies exchanged cards for future collaboration and furthering business. To name some of the attendees that evening who participated: Lauren Brombert, Kind Dub, ATP (A Travesty Prevented), Driftin’ Suns, Dave Does Designs, Vices I Admire, Loring Davidson, Silo Sound Recording Studio, Death Bed Confession, Hollenbass, Hillbilly Hellcats, Katey Laurel, Performance High, AdrienneO, Wimbo Music, Guitar Center, Two Girls with Guitars, Literati Records, BLDGBLKS Music, IGC LLC, The Spot Studio, Dise Music, Our Generation, The Dead End Drivers, and Aureus Audio.

The excitement has continued to carry over weeks later, as we hear word of groups working together on new and great projects. A hearty round of applause also went out to Brittany Devens, who delighted all present with her acoustics.

If you haven’t already signed up, there are still seats for the April 8, 2014, panel, “Designing your Band – Band Member Roles and Organizational Structure,” which will be led by Adrienne Osborn and Justin Long from Performance High.

What’s coming up in May? “Branding, Imaging, Marketing, and Social Media” with panelists Kevin Shipley, President of MusicMunch, and Dave Curtis, from Dave Does Design and Vices I Admire. Mark your calendars for May 13, 2014! Registration opens Thursday, April 10; you don’t want to miss out on:
