It is always a special night when extremely talented crews of musicians come out to play and celebrate a difference-making non-profit. Such was the case at Platte Street Studios, as Nashville’s, the Farewell Drifters, and some of Colorado’s finest singer/songwriters played for the Strings & Wood Concerts’ three-year anniversary show. It was a great gathering for the local community in an intimate venue, to showcase three incredible years of shows.

The non-profit, based in Denver, is a music-promotion company and artist agency. It is spearheaded by local photographer, Art Heffron, with original inspiration from singer/songwriter Steven Delopoulos (Burlap to Cashmere), and songwriter and Highlands Church Pastor, Mark Tidd. The drive, heart, and mission behind Strings & Wood Concerts “is to provide an avenue and platform, through the promotion of live music, social justice, and visual art, for people to celebrate their innate ability to live artistically, aesthetically, and creatively.”

The mission was displayed in the truest form, as the Farewell Drifters’ headlining set showed why they are rising stars in the music hot spot of Nashville. They played many songs off their album, Echo Boom, including fan favorite, “We Go Together,” and covered Wilco’s “California Stars,” which was fitting, as they were bound for the West Coast.

Jace Smyki opened the show, and those in attendance were truly fortunate to see some of Colorado’s best singer/songwriters, such as Rob Drabkin, Megan Burtt, Ayo Awosika, Dave Preston, and Gabrielle Louise, play in a showcase style, alternating playing songs. Each artist has been aided on his or her musical journey by Heffron’s Strings & Wood Concerts, and fans enjoyed live-music massage by Tracy Knowles of Synchronicity Massage.

The night raised funds for the next year of Strings & Wood Concerts, all of which depend on the donations and support of music fans to keep the music playing.
